Be VIGILANT for PEACE

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Bombings, war, the irrational decisions of world leaders, the chaos and lies. We’re in a world where truth is a relative term and treated like a commodity purchased by the highest bidder.

I propose that every day, at 9:11 am and 9:11 pm, everyone supporting peace stop everything you’re doing for 10 minutes. If you’re at work, stop. If you’re eating breakfast, stop. Taking a quiz at school? Stop. Teaching school? Stop. No matter what you’re doing, stop. And if people ask you what you’re doing, tell them you’re stopping to consider peace. Our leaders won’t, so we should. Maybe, eventually, they will stop too. I don’t know about you, but a peaceful world is worth 20 minutes of my day. It’s not just global. How can you be peace at home? At school? Work? How can you be peace to a stranger?

Just stop everything, for only ten minutes, and focus on everything good in life. Focus on the positive outcomes of every turbulent current event. Focus on it all turning out perfectly. Focus on having more time for your family or volunteering for charity. Focus on being kind and generous. Twice daily. For ten minutes. That’s all I ask .. just pause to think about it.

If “the powers that be” are focusing on how to destroy one another, let us choose to help each other. We all have different views, morals, religions, and opinions. Differences are to be celebrated and explored with the wonder of a child.

It is time to be VIGILANT about PEACE.
